Disabled residents with placards or license plates who meet additional proposed criteria may be able to get a public, blue curb painted in front of their homes for easier access to their dwellings.

City engineering staff members recommended Tuesday that the Traffic Commission create a municipal policy that would outline what conditions need to be met for residential disabled parking spaces.

Some of the proposed criteria include: a continuous concrete pavement from the curb to the resident’s door; direct access from the space to the home; no undue hardship to the rest of the community if the space is designated, and a driveway for parking other vehicles at the residence.
