* BorgWarner Inc., the world’s largest maker of engine turbochargers, said third-quarter earnings fell 9% to $24.9 million, or 95 cents a share, citing production cuts at Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler and a weak euro. Sales rose 5% to $618.5 million. The results matched analysts’ estimates that had been revised down from $1.06 last month, after the company warned that it wouldn’t meet expectations.

* Hasbro Inc.’s Galoob Toys unit has agreed to pay $400,000 to settle allegations it failed to report defects and injuries associated with its Sky Dancer doll, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. Galoob, which was purchased by Hasbro in November 1998, failed to report in a timely manner 150 injuries involving the Sky Dancer, a hard plastic doll that can fly rapidly in unpredictable directions after being launched into the air, the commission said. In agreeing to the civil penalty, the company denies it violated any law administered by the commission, Hasbro said.
