Sometimes, More Work Doesn’t Raise One’s Pay

Share

Q: I recently was “promoted” from facility technician to facility manager. I went from having no staff to having a staff of 10. I also went from providing support for two floors at one building to managing 20 floors in six buildings.

But there has been no mention of a salary increase. Is this legal?

A: Yes. There is no legal requirement that an employee’s compensation increase when more duties and responsibilities are added. You are free, of course, to bring your additional responsibilities to the attention of your employer and suggest that a salary adjustment might be in order.
