Cuba bounced back from their first-ever defeat by beating host Australia, 1-0, behind its best big-game pitcher, Jose Ariel Contreras.

Luis Ulacia singled home a run in the third inning and Contreras gave up only three singles in a complete game that made the Cubans winners again.

Later, South Korea got a pair of run-scoring singles in the first inning and held the Netherlands to two hits for a 2-0 victory.
