It’s Ladies’ Night at ‘Heroine Addicts’

Disproving Jerry Lewis’ comment that women can’t be funny, the hilarious all-female comedy variety show “Heroine Addicts” at Bang Improv Studio covers various facets of being a woman.
The blond and quavery-voiced Penelope Lombard acts as host, pondering whether it’s ever improper to wear a bikini or if fathers should wear Capri pants.
There’s plenty to giggle about--Jane Lynch portrays a former-journalist-turned-New-Age-feminist who uses yoga to rest her ovaries; Dagney Kerr is a goth girl spouting bad poetry; and Christine Schoenwald is a woman who gets stood up while waffling about what movie to see.
Tish Hicks takes us back in time, portraying a torch singer trying to break up with her loser of a lover. In another all-too-familiar scenario, a mother (Kate Donahue) uses passive-aggressive control games with her daughter (Lisa Malone), who has returned home after a disastrous divorce.
Shaz Bennett has a more atypical situation in mind as she recounts a sex-toy party and a day at the zoo while taking acid. Amy Simon is a harried mother talking to her friend as she compares New York to Southern California living. Kathleen M. Darcy portrays a hyper-romantic woman with a delusional version of safe sex.
This isn’t a male-bashing free-for-all hour, but a sensitive, witty bill of sketches and monologues about and by women.
