Four Steps to Soundproofing

Planning on doing some soundproofing? Think more insulation is all you need? Think again.

There are four parts to better soundproofing, and adding insulation to absorb sound is just one.

The other three are: blocking noise with a non-hardening caulk to close off airborne sound paths; breaking the sound path using resilient wood studs with metal clips; and eliminating vibration with acoustical matting that isolates the wall structure from floor vibrations.

You can get all needed materials in soundproofing kits for both interior and exterior residential walls.
