Undocumented Taxes

Share

* Walter Ladwig’s April 11 letter asks if we give a break to undocumented immigrants, why not let children of other states in? The difference is simple. Even if illegal, the undocumented immigrants in California are helping pay for the schools. They pay sales tax, property taxes (directly, or indirectly, as part of their rent), and many have state/federal taxes withheld. Their families contribute to the state’s economy. Those residing in Arizona, Oregon and Nevada don’t. So, what Ladwig is really suggesting is that this class of people pay for services they are not entitled to.
