Payouts to ‘Bumped’ Fliers Get Review
From Times Wire Reports
The U.S. Transportation Department said it is reviewing whether to boost the ceilings on how much airlines pay passengers who are “bumped” from oversold flights.
Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta said he ordered the review of compensation, unchanged since 1978, as part of a “broad-ranging” look at areas in which customer service improvements may be needed.
The compensation is in addition to the value of the ticket, which the passenger can use for alternate transportation or get refunded.
