EPA Fines Huntington Firm for Pesticide Sales

Share

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has fined a Huntington Beach medical products supplier $20,000 for selling unregistered pesticides.

The agency said the company, Doug Brown and Associates, had been selling two unregistered brands of pre-moistened, antibacterial wipes to hospitals nationwide. Doug Brown has since brought the products into compliance with the law, said Bill Lee, an agency enforcement officer.

Federal regulations require companies that make or supply goods that prevent, destroy or repel pests to submit data showing they work and listing all possible health and environmental risks.

The business initially failed to register the products because of an administrative slip-up, said Doug Barsh, president of Doug Brown. The wipes did not pose any harm to the environment or to humans, he said.

The EPA took its action after an inspection by a state agency.
