From Times Wire Reports

A Russian physicist who specializes in space research has been charged with spying for China, but his colleagues insist he is innocent.

Valentin Danilov was arrested in February and is accused of selling research materials to a Chinese company. He has been jailed in Krasnoyarsk, 2,000 miles east of Moscow, and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

About 20 of Danilov’s colleagues have asked prosecutors to free him, noting that his research was declassified in 1992.
