India-Bangladesh Cease-Fire Holding

From Times Wire Reports

India said a cease-fire was holding along its border with Bangladesh after two days of fighting that killed 19 troops. Both sides reported gunfire the previous night.

The conflict over several villages began this week when Bangladeshi soldiers descended on Pyrdiwah, a village that Bangladesh says India has occupied for 30 years. The Bangladeshis surrounded a camp of Indian troops and occupied the homes abandoned by fleeing villagers.

The Bangladeshi soldiers withdrew from Pyrdiwah on Thursday after commanders from both sides agreed that the hamlet would remain in Indian hands and that India would dismantle a road it was building in a disputed area.
