From Times Wire Reports

Authorities evacuated 77,000 people in the northern Italian city of Vicenza for several hours so experts could defuse a 4,000-pound unexploded bomb dropped by a British plane during World War II.

Police units were reinforced to ensure that residents obeyed the evacuation orders, and air raid sirens wailed throughout the morning. Even the city’s hospital--all its patients, 100 doctors and emergency equipment--was temporarily relocated.
