Dictates of History

Re “After Sharon, a Phoenix Arises,” Commentary, Aug. 7: Ahmed Bouzid is shortsighted. Does he think that Israel and the Jewish people care what the Europeans think about Israel’s policies of defending its civilians? We don’t. Just because the Europeans or other Gentiles think that what the Jews are doing is wrong does not make Israel’s actions objectively wrong. It means only that some anti-Semites living across the ocean believe it.

Does Bouzid really believe that peace will come just because Shimon Peres gets elected? Not even Peres will give up the Temple Mount. Thus, until the Arabs begin confronting the true history of the region and admit that the Temple Mount is the home of the Jewish Temple, the war will continue. Peres cannot change history; only the Arabs appear able to do that. And the Europeans believe the Arabs.
