The percentage of people in the United States with home Internet access rose at a slower pace in the last year than in the previous period, according to a study by Nielsen/NetRatings.

About 58% of people in the U.S. had online access at home in July, Nielsen/NetRatings said. In the 12 months ended in July 2000, that number grew to 52% from 39% in July 1999, the study said.

The time spent online by Web users increased to an average of 10 hours and 19 minutes during July, from an average of 9 hours and 41 minutes a year earlier.
