More than 2,000 South Koreans sued their government, seeking compensation for “unbearable” noise from U.S. bombing exercises near their village.

In the lawsuit filed in a Seoul civil court, the 2,222 villagers are demanding $15,300 each for enduring decades of noise from the Koon Ni bombing range near Maehyang Ri on South Korea’s west coast.

The suit follows a court ruling in April that ordered the Seoul government to pay 14 other villagers roughly the same amount each. It was the first time a court held Seoul responsible for damages caused by the U.S. military.
