Storms over the Barents Sea have halted work by an international diving crew preparing to raise the sunken nuclear submarine Kursk, the Russian navy said.

Waves reaching 13 feet and winds up to 36 mph were reported in the area, the navy’s press office said, according to the Itar-Tass news agency.

The winds are forecast to stay strong until Tuesday or Wednesday, Itar-Tass and Interfax reported.

The Kursk sank during training exercises last August, killing all 118 crewmen aboard.
