Couple Get 33 Years to Life in Child’s Death
A Pomona woman and her boyfriend, both convicted of second-degree murder in the death of the woman’s 3-year-old daughter, were sentenced to 33 years to life in prison on Tuesday.
Simona Demery, 20, and Jeffery Jones, 25, were convicted July 11 of second-degree murder, child abuse and conspiracy in connection with the death of Demery’s daughter, Alicia Versluis.
Demery also was found guilty of fatally assaulting a child.
Alicia was reported missing in May 2000. Demery and Jones admitted that the girl had died but denied responsibility for her death. Alicia’s body has never been found.
