Working Poor, Awake!

Share

I enjoyed Matthew Miller’s Aug. 17 commentary on George Bush’s ability to weigh tough arguments (“Don’t Sell Short the Newly Spun W”). But I have to ask Miller, what if every American living on minimum wage engaged in the same level of unbridled curiosity? What if each said to him-or herself, “I don’t like living like this anymore, what am I going to do to fix it? What skills can I build to bring up my earnings? What education can I attain? What personal habits do I have that are hurting my chances for success?”

I wonder who would come up with a solution faster: Bush, the Democrats in Congress, Barbara Ehrenreich or the working poor?
