Jerusalem Divided

Yossi Klein Halevi argues that Israel’s control over East Jerusalem is somehow a legitimate matter (“Takeover of Orient House Shatters the Trojan Horse,” Commentary, Aug. 20). Some 200,000 Palestinians in East Jerusalem have no say in whether they want Israel as their occupier and military ruler. Meanwhile, Israel has, since the 1970s, ringed the area with illegal settlements in order to cut East Jerusalem off from the West Bank. These settlements include Gilo, which Halevi disingenuously calls a “neighborhood.”
No amount of Israeli posturing can justify the continuing occupation.
