Boys Also Need Their Fathers

Share

Peggy Drexler’s article (“Moms Are Enough,” Opinion, Aug. 19) was narrow-mindedly “gay rights” and so blatantly self-serving it infuriated me. Our sons do need fathers! As a practicing therapist, I deal constantly with the fallout from bitter divorces and the epidemic of one-gender parenting. What lesbian chic fails to take into account is its own hypocrisy. If millions of heterosexual men were to suddenly decide to raise daughters (with little or no consultation with females), there would be a national outcry.

I am not against experimenting with variations on the loving nuclear family. We obviously have no other option. But a friend of mine donated sperm to a lesbian couple several years ago, and he has remained actively involved in the life of his son. I consider his decision to be a responsible one. I consider pretending the absence of the other parent is of no consequence to be highly irresponsible.

Drexler’s piece gives the perfect example of why we need to outlaw gays and lesbians from adopting or otherwise having children. It’s not about their sexual orientation, it’s about their selfishness. They could not care less about the child’s right to have both a male father and female mother; they are only thinking about what they want.

This should also wake people up to the fact that just because someone is a scholar or a psychologist, doesn’t mean that she has an ounce of common sense. If anything, the person is more glued to an agenda than a reasonable person.
