Intel to Unveil a Faster PC Chip

Intel Corp. will unveil faster models of its Pentium 4 personal-computer processor next week as the biggest semiconductor maker gears up for a developer conference.
Intel Vice President Louis Burns will introduce a 2-gigahertz chip at an event in San Jose, according to an invitation to the release. The top Pentium 4 now reaches 1.8 GHz.
The chip maker wants to boost the Pentium 4’s acceptance. Since the product’s November introduction, Intel has chopped the cost by as much as 69% to lure PC buyers during an industrywide slump.
