Immigrants Detained in Chunnel Crossing Try
About 40 illegal immigrants were detained for questioning after breaking into the Channel Tunnel and trying to cross from France to Britain by foot, tunnel officials said.
The immigrants forced their way in through a fence. Once they reached the entry of the tunnel under the English Channel, an alarm system alerted authorities, Eurotunnel spokesman Francois Borel said.
Train traffic in the tunnel was halted for three hours after midnight following the discovery.
Hundreds of illegal immigrants try to jump on Britain-bound freight trains every night.
