Show Scientists Respect

As a scientist, albeit an astronomer, I was deeply offended by the Michael Ramirez cartoon (Commentary, Nov. 27). The scientists I know are deeply ethical and honorable people who would oppose the taking of human life under almost any circumstances. Ramirez’s implication that scientists are killing babies in their experiments is disgusting. Everyone living today, including Ramirez, owes the ease of his or her existence and the virtual certainty of a life span approaching a century to scientists. Let’s try to accord them the respect they’ve earned.
