A military court condemned five men to death, including the notorious Abu Nidal, for the 1994 assassination of a Jordanian diplomat.

Four of the five, including Abu Nidal, were sentenced in absentia.

All were found guilty of killing Naeb Imran Maaytah, first secretary at the Jordanian Embassy in Beirut. He was shot to death in his car on Jan. 29, 1994.

In October 1994, a military court in Lebanon sentenced four followers of Abu Nidal to life in prison for the slaying, three in absentia. It was unclear whether any of the others sentenced in Jordan were also among those sentenced in Lebanon.
