Former Peace Negotiator Found Dead in Chechnya
From Times Wire Reports
Police in the breakaway Russian republic of Chechnya found the body of a top local politician and former peace negotiator.
Rizvan Lorsanov, who had brokered talks between Russian authorities and separatists in 1996, leading to the end of the first Chechen conflict, was found by his wrecked car off a highway, the Interfax news agency reported.
Local authorities said the car carrying Lorsanov and two passengers had apparently driven over an explosive device, probably a land mine, on Friday, Interfax reported.
