Zimbabwe’s top court has declared the government’s plan to confiscate white-owned farms legal, reversing its previous ruling.

Four of the five Supreme Court justices appointed to hear the new case said they were satisfied that the “fast track” land nationalization program was lawful and “sufficiently complied” with the constitution.

Most of the judges who made last year’s ruling have been replaced. Four of the judges hearing the new case were appointed recently by President Robert Mugabe. About 4,500 farms are slated for seizure.
