Live Broadcast Shows Officials Taking Bribes
From Times Wire Reports
Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit scrambled to defend his anti-corruption efforts after a television station filmed two government officials taking bribes from an undercover reporter and broadcast the images live on a news program.
Millions of Turks watched Thursday as the officials bargained over kickbacks and agreed to accept tens of thousands of dollars in exchange for state funding of a fictitious construction project.
The men were seen on Show TV being handcuffed by police.
