Syria’s Cabinet quit in a move analysts said is a sign that President Bashar Assad will try to reform the nation’s command economy.

The state news agency said Assad accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa Miro’s government and asked him to form a new Cabinet. The present government will stay on as a caretaker until the new one is formed, it said.

Analysts and diplomats believe changes will come in the economic portfolios. Assad pledged political and economic liberalization last year, after he succeeded his late father, Hafez Assad, who kept a tight grip on the country for 30 years.
