Judge Refuses to Dismiss Case Against Traficant
A federal judge in Cleveland has refused to throw out a criminal indictment against Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. (D-Ohio).
Traficant had filed a motion asking the judge to dismiss the case, arguing the indictment was defective and deficient.
But U.S. District Judge Lesley Brooks Wells said that Traficant’s motion to dismiss was without merit.
Traficant faces charges that include racketeering, bribery and tax evasion.
Federal prosecutors say he accepted money, gifts and free labor for help in his official capacity as a congressman.
