VATICAN CITY — A high Vatican official and the custodian of the Message of Fatima denied this week that a still-undisclosed portion of the so-called third secret of Fatima predicted the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
The denial was contained in a statement issued by Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone, secretary of the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Last year, the Vatican made public what it said was the full text of the third secret. Officials said the secret prophesied the suffering in the 20th century and the attempt to assassinate Pope John Paul II.
