3 Soldiers, 1 Rebel Killed in Ambush
Three Nepalese soldiers and one Maoist guerrilla were killed as government troops stepped up their campaign to flush out rebels fighting to turn the country into a communist state, officials said.
The soldiers were killed when rebels ambushed a military patrol with a land mine at Sallang Khola, in western Nepal’s Lamjung district, the Defense Ministry said.
A ministry statement said the army had “completely destroyed three caves used for training and shelter by the rebels at Shailungeshwor in Dolakha district.”
Dolakha, in central Nepal, is a stronghold of the Maoist guerrillas.
