Nonprofit to Host Program on Aging
A group dedicated to Ventura County seniors with special needs is hosting an educational program next week on aging and memory loss, part of an ongoing series of public education programs.
“Senior Moments and Memory Loss: Is it a Normal Part of Aging?” is set for 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Fitzgerald Senior Day Support Center, 401 Hodencamp Road.
Reservations will be accepted by phone until Monday, and walk-in reservations will be based on available space, said Lynn Engelbert, executive director. A $10 donation to the nonprofit group is requested.
Leading the discussion will be Sandra McMullen, a professional gerontologist and program director for the Alzheimer’s Assn. of Ventura County. She will speak both to seniors about being aware of memory loss and to people who may have to care for aging family members.
This is the third year Senior Concerns has sponsored a series of educational programs focusing on coping with the challenges of aging. This program is funded by a grant from the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging to the Alzheimer’s Day Resource Center, Engelbert said.
The next program in the series is scheduled for March 8 and is titled “Elder Abuse and Mandated Reporting: It’s the Law.”
