Memorial Set for Manazar Gamboa
A memorial service for Manazar Gamboa is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grace E. Simons Lodge, 1025 Elysian Park Drive. The program, including poetry and commentary, is sponsored by a consortium of arts organizations and individual members of the City Council.
Gamboa, who died Dec. 13 at age 66, was a convict-turned-poet who devoted his post-prison life to writing and sharing the liberating power of literature with troubled youth.
