Leona Jacobs-White; KPFA Talk Show Host

Leona Jacobs-White, 72, volunteer programmer and talk show host of Berkeley’s noncommercial radio station KPFA-FM. A native of Oakland, she spent 20 years as a nurse at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland and then became a speech therapist for Richmond public schools. After taking a women of color training program at KPFA, she became a volunteer programmer and co-hosted its weekly “AIDS in Focus” program for six years. From 1988 to 1990, she hosted a weekly talk show, and she recently co-produced “Seven Generations,” an environmental program. On Jan. 31 in Berkeley of cancer.
