‘Invasion’ Figure Released From Jail

Cuban American Ernestino Abreu Horta, jailed since 1998 for staging a bizarre armed landing in Cuba, has been released for health reasons and has returned to Miami, the Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation said.
Abreu, 76, and Cuban exile Vicente Marcelino Rodriguez Martinez, 66, received 15-year sentences last year on a charge of planning a “rebellion.” They were convicted of coming ashore in a motorboat with a stash of medicine and arms on a mysterious “invasion” mission.
