I find Telemundo spokeswoman Roxanna Brightwell’s comments offensive (“Telemundo Has Rolled the Dice, but ‘Viva Vegas!’ Faces Tough Odds,” by Richard Fausset, Jan. 28). She was quoted as saying: “Latinos are just not used to sitcoms. . . . They’re more into slapstick comedy, men running around in short pants and funny little hats.”

I strongly disagree with her take on Latino viewers, our preference for cheesy, cheap and vulgar comedy, and Telemundo’s role in changing these stereotypes. I have been watching “Los Beltran” since it first started. This show is of the highest quality in both content and production value. The writing, direction and acting are superb.

Change takes time. Telemundo has the right vision for the future and I commend it for leading the way in educating the viewers with its original comedies. I can assure the network’s executive that if the shows were on Univision or any other network that promoted their shows, their ratings would be amazing. Please stand behind your shows and support them!
