Apartment Complex Recreation Center

Re “Seniors Sue Over Loss of Apartment’s Recreation Center,” Jan. 21.

After reading the article by Grace E. Jang concerning the plight of the Woodland Hills seniors, I can only say I’m appalled and angry. The defense attorney, Doug Alani, made a comment which should--I hope--cost him the case: “Have you seen the other projects’ leasing offices near there? They’re very nice. When you go in to rent a place, the first thing you see is the leasing office.”

That may be true, but the niceness of the office is not going to persuade me to sign up. It’s amenities, such as a large, pleasant clubroom, where I saw people laughing and visiting over coffee, that would be one of the main selling points.

Seniors shouldn’t be relegated to smaller quarters--especially if it is a not-too-subtle way to try to get rid of them. They are someone’s parents and grandparents.
