Ex-General’s Backers Continue Rallies
Croatian nationalists blocked roads and staged more rallies in support of an ex-general on the run from war crimes investigators.
The automobile club HAK said the protests, staged by supporters of Mirko Norac, had forced traffic between Zagreb, the capital, and the port of Split to be diverted around his hometown, Sinj.
Veterans groups, vehemently opposed to any probe into the actions of Croatian troops in or out of combat, are leading the protests, which threaten to divide the country.
A senior government official blamed the main opposition party--the nationalist Croatian Democratic Union--for the rallies, which might be aimed at toppling the government.
