* Re “Minor Offenders in Orange County Taken to Border Patrol; Many Are Deported,” Feb. 12: What they are doing is racist, all right. Since the vast majority of the millions of illegal aliens are Latinos, that’s the race of the people who are going to be deported. It’s common sense and simple math.

The Border Patrol has been and is overwhelmed. It needs all the help it can get. Their first offense, by the way, was coming into this country illegally.

This is nonsense! When police resources are expended on arresting flower vendors or day laborers and then further expended on transporting them all the way to the San Clemente Border Patrol checkpoint, it means those resources are not dedicated to investigating and apprehending armed robbers, rapists, murderers, child molesters, wife beaters, drug dealers, drug users, pimps, prostitutes and illicit drug manufacturers, and the list goes on and on. Of course, maybe Orange County doesn’t have any robbers, rapists, murderers, etc.?

Aren’t these people stopped for minor offenses entitled to a day in court to determine if they were breaking a law in the first place? Who’s to know if they weren’t just stopped for no reason whatsoever and simply taken away without what everyone in this country is entitled to, due process? I guess we can just rely on the police, because after all, we know they always tell the truth.
