Not Tyler Too

In the Feb. 4 Puzzler, the answer to 3 Down, “Presidents Tyler and Taylor,” is given as “Whigs.” Tyler was not a Whig, he was an anti-Jackson (and therefore anti-Van Buren) Democrat chosen by the Whigs to be Harrison’s vice presidential running mate.

When Harrison died, Tyler became president, but he didn’t become a Whig. Both parties considered him a traitor. End of history lesson!
