The Other Side of Hawaii Flights

* Re “No Lei-Over in Plan for Hawaii Flights,” Feb. 2:

Your article about adding direct flights to Hawaii from John Wayne Airport can only be regarded by citizens of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa as a breach in the dam represented by the settlement agreement restricting flights to and from John Wayne Airport.

The next airline move will be to use the same aircraft for nonstop flights to the East Coast. It is already known that John Wayne operators are pushing the agreed-upon noise limits. A fully loaded 737-700 can be expected to further push out the noise limits and violate the takeoff climb and throttle-back over Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.

This flight operation would be ideal for the proposed El Toro international airport, which is more expansive and has large buffer zones so that takeoff and landing restrictions would not be necessary.
