Strong Wind Delays Shuttle’s Return

Stiff wind prevented space shuttle Atlantis from returning to Earth, keeping the ship and its crew in orbit a 12th day.
Mission Control in Cape Canaveral ordered the astronauts, on their way back from the international space station, to remain in orbit until this afternoon.
The wind was gusting to 24 mph at the landing area; NASA’s limit for a shuttle landing is 17 mph.
