A partnership that includes Santa Monica-based Watt Commercial Properties plans to break ground in May on a 389-unit high-rise apartment complex in downtown San Diego.

The downtown redevelopment authority gave its final approval to the project, which consist of 18-story twin towers that will be built on a city block near the Little Italy district.

The ground floor will include live-work spaces that will resemble townhouses.
