The Usual: Normally, my fiance and I go to the farmers market, cook for each other, read books and hang out with my dog. But if we did a special weekend, we would definitely go to Santa Barbara.

Snoozing and Such: After sleeping in on Saturday, I have a little secret hike that goes up to one of the reservoirs where it looks like New Hampshire. It’s so peaceful and nobody’s up there, and my dog tires out halfway through and we end up having to carry him.

Off to Market: Sunday’s the best day. We get up and usually go to the Hollywood Farmers Market and eat tamales for breakfast from the Corn Maiden. We’re both very spicy people. He’s a Leo. I’m an Aries. There it is. We’re fire signs. We always hit the mushroom guy. We hit the fish guy. We hit the herb lady. And we’re little scavengers. We pretend that we live in Tuscany, and we gather our little basket together and we go home and make magic.

On to Santa Barbara: For New Year’s, we decided to go toward the ocean. We went to Brophy Bros., the restaurant that’s right on the pier. It’s kind of a loud seafood place, but we discovered that if you go downstairs to the little clam bar place, it’s really quiet.

Bring on the Vino: We went wine-tasting one day, which is very fun because it’s really small-scale. And then we had dinner at the greatest place in Santa Barbara, called bouchon. It was so good that we ordered four appetizers and just boxed up our entrees. We had foie gras, lobsters, truffles, just these incredible creative things. Totally romantic.

Priceless: We were sitting at brunch on New Year’s Eve and he looked at me and said, “What’s the matter?” because apparently I had some horrible look on my face. And I said, “I can’t marry you in a year and a half.” And he turns white as a ghost and says, “What are you talking about?” And I said, “Look outside. Look how beautiful it is. We have to get married here in the summer.” He was like, “Oh, yeah, OK, let’s do that!” So our date was moved up and now we’re getting married in Santa Barbara in the summer. We don’t exactly have everything planned out. It was just so gorgeous and it so fits us. The peacefulness of the water and the mountains. I’m so happy. He is my best friend, which is the best part of the whole deal. We love hanging out together.
