Ex-General Wanted by Authorities Is Held
A former Croatian general wanted on suspicion of war crimes was in custody, police said, ending a two-week search that sparked anti-government protests.
Police spokesman Slavko Rako said retired Maj. Gen. Mirko Norac would be transferred to the northwestern port city of Rijeka, where the regional court is expected to decide whether he should be held pending an inquiry.
Norac has been on the run since a Croatian court announced Feb. 8 that it was investigating his alleged role in the 1991 killing of Serbian civilians in the city of Gospic.
