* Re “U.S. Charges FBI Agent With Spying for Russia Since 1985,” Feb. 21: Let me see if I have my facts straight: Robert Philip Hanssen, who faces a possible death sentence if convicted, and his predecessor, Aldrich Ames, are evil traitors who deserve nothing but scorn and disgrace because they spied on their country (the U.S.) for the enemy (Russia), which directly led to death sentences and execution for noble and courageous men who spied on their country (Russia) for the enemy (the U.S.).

It’s a shame FBI Director Louis Freeh didn’t spend as much time policing his own agency as he did pursuing Al Gore’s visit to a Buddhist temple. Freeh stood by and allowed great harm to the United States. Who should be under investigation?

I followed with interest the FBI spy story. Reminds me of a riddle: What do we call someone who authorizes the sale of missile-guidance technology and supercomputers to China, a country which now has missiles capable of reaching the U.S.; who failed to ensure proper security of our nuclear weapons data, which were stolen by China; who received campaign money from the Chinese military; and who hasn’t spent a day in jail? Answer: Mr. President.
