4 Days of Inaugural Events Fill Bush’s Dance Card
President-elect George W. Bush’s inaugural festivities will include three public events celebrating American writers, military veterans and youth, as well as at least eight balls, according to a schedule released by organizers Tuesday afternoon.
The inaugural program, the theme of which is “Celebrating America’s Spirit Together,” will spread over four days, starting Thursday, Jan. 18, with an opening ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial. That evening, organizers will hold three candlelight fund-raising dinners expected to attract about 6,000 supporters.
On Friday, Jan. 19, the Presidential Inaugural Committee has scheduled a celebration of American authors hosted by Laura Bush and a tribute to veterans at the Washington Convention Center hosted by Vice President-elect Dick Cheney.
Following the swearing-in of Bush on Saturday will be the traditional parade, and later, eight balls at venues around the city.
The festivities will end Sunday with a service at the Washington Cathedral and a White House open house.
