Beck Wins It in Last Second for Fullerton

Romel Beck’s three-point play with less than a second remaining helped Fullerton defeat Irvine Valley, 70-67, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game Saturday night at Irvine Valley.

With the score 67-67, Beck scored on a leaning jump shot from the baseline and was fouled, then converted the free throw.

Beck finished with 21 points and Levar Grace had 18 for Fullerton (13-5, 1-1 in conference).

Chris Ferguson scored 21 points for Irvine Valley (10-9, 0-2).

In another conference game:

Orange Coast 88, Cypress 78--Ryan Webster and Nick Burwell had 17 points each, Ryan Earl added 16 and Rich Oliver had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Pirates (11-6, 2-0).

Abe Lorenzana scored 14 points for Cypress (7-11, 0-2).

Saddleback 77, Riverside 75--Mike Donegan scored 23 points and Mark Brown added 17 for the visiting Gauchos (17-2, 2-0), who led by 13 at intermission.

Santa Ana 71, Golden West 62--Five players scored in double figures for Santa Ana (11-7, 2-0), led by Zac Fray with 16 points.

Darnell Graham had 21 for Golden West.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:

Cypress 48, Orange Coast 37--Elizabeth Perez scored 14 points and Angela Garrett had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Chargers (7-11, 1-1).

Irvine Valley 80, Fullerton 36--Natalie Quinn hit five three-pointers and scored 19 points for Irvine Valley (14-5, 2-0).

Santa Ana 80, Golden West 50--Jennifer Garrett had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Acheve Barre scored 19 points for the host Dons (13-5, 2-0).
