Compassion Versus Neglect

Share

Mentally ill and homeless Paul, with his leg swollen and bloodied, is gravely disabled (“The Ultimate Test of Society’s Patience and Compassion,” by James Ricci, Nov. 26). One has to question whether reaching out to Paul 100 times in hope that he might accept treatment is compassion or neglect. Would it perhaps be more compassionate to take Paul to a place of safety, treat his other medical problems and give him medication, albeit involuntarily? Then Paul could start on a real road to recovery. Perhaps before he dies of gangrene.
