Campbell Likely to Skip Track Season

Cal State Fullerton junior Brandon Campbell, who chose to take a redshirt year in basketball this season because of a knee injury, said he probably will also sit out the track season.

Campbell holds individual school records in the high jump at 7 feet 1 3/4 inches, long jump at 24-5 3/4, and 400 meters at 46.98 seconds. He won the Big West long jump championship as a freshman. Campbell also holds the school’s decathlon record with 6,637 points and was a member of relay teams that set school records at 400 meters (40.41) and 1,600 (3:10.81).

Campbell said he was disappointed his knee had not healed to the point that he could continue playing basketball this season.

“I would have liked to play the rest of the season,” Campbell said. “But I knew that I wouldn’t be helping the team if my leg wasn’t 100%. I was surprised how sore it was after not playing in a game for a while.”

Campbell missed eight games after being injured in the season opener at Oregon State. He returned for one game, playing 23 minutes against Northern Arizona, before deciding to take a medical redshirt.
